WHO WE ARE
The Global South Foundation is an independent think-tank based in New Delhi, working to strengthen India’s partnerships with the countries of Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific. Managed by a group of young scholars and guided by an Advisory Council of diplomats, scholars and public intellectuals, we combine independent research with practical advice and build links between societies, especially among young people. We are open about our funders and partners, and we work with institutions across the Global South as equals.
Why we exist
India’s ambitions in the Global South are growing faster than the research, advice, and people-to-people connections needed to support them. Policymakers need independent analysis of fast-changing regions. Businesses and states need practical guidance on unfamiliar markets and corridors. Societies know too little about one another, and young people have few ways to learn about and connect with Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Common agendas on issues such as climate, health, security, and the reform of global institutions are strongest when they are built with partners in the South, not written about them.
The Global South Foundation exists to fill these gaps. We provide independent research, a trusted space for dialogue, practical advice, and exchange programmes for young people, openly and in partnership with institutions across the developing world.
What We Do
The Global South Foundation turns India’s engagement with developing countries into lasting knowledge, relationships, and results. We carry out independent research on geopolitics, trade and corridors, energy and environment, non-traditional security, and the common issues facing the Global South. We bring scholars, officials, businesses, and young people together through conferences, dialogues, and cultural and youth exchanges, and we offer practical advice to governments, businesses, and institutions based on our research.
